November overhaul update

21 November 2007

Basically, everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. We've had like the world's most unlucky day.

We've completed most of the software updates but the hardware installation has been delayed. We should be doing some of it later today and the rest at a later date.

November overhaul

21 November 2007

We're about to undertake quite a bit of work at our Burchett Place datacenter which will affect quite a few of the servers. Full details are below.

Firstly we are upgrading the backup power supply systems of Zapotec, Aztec, Olmec and Nazca which will take them all offline for a brief period of time. Secondly we are installing new management systems on Inca and Zapotec which will then take them offline.

Finally we are installing some new hardware in Inca which will take it offline for a little longer period of time. We will also be installing some software updates while we are having some downtime to make sure that everything is up to date.

This maintenance will begin at approximately 14:30 GMT today.

Aztec is back online

8 November 2007

I said I would post when Aztec came back online. And then forgot.

Sorry :D. Aztec was brought back online a few hours ago and is up and running as normal. We managed to carry out the maintenance without having to take Nazca offline at all so all is well there too.

Aztec downtime

6 November 2007

Due to some hardware problems with a different server we are having to take Aztec offline for the indefinite future (on the same day we finally got it online and everything).

It might not take that long but I would imagine that it will be down for a good couple of hours and could well be down for a few days.

Nazca may go offline for short periods of time again while we are moving things around although if all goes well we will be able to keep it online.

New servers update

6 November 2007

A heads up on a few services. First of all, Aztec will be up and running on a regular basis within the hour. We're just sorting the final few things out now.

Secondly, Nazca will be offline for the next 15 minutes while we move a few things round.

Tonight's outage

28 October 2007

Our Burchett Place datacenter suffered a power outage at approximately 22:30 GMT tonight.

Our backup systems kicked in and kept most of the network up but we lost some connectively and some services.

Rather than risk draining our backup systems completely we decided to shut down everything and wait for the power to be restored which it was about 5 minutes ago.

We're still checking the final few systems are back online but all services from Inca, Zapotec and Nazca are now back online. No other servers were affected.

Bug fix on sites listings

28 September 2007
Tags: Websites

Today we noticed a small bug on the sites listings which resulted in sites which have the same name as other sites (usually an old and new when they are both online) using the wrong URLs. This has now been taken care of.

As far as we can tell it only affected the lists for WorfolkOnline.com and SpoofBox.com linking to the old sites on both listings. They both now point to the correct URL.

Inca back online

16 September 2007

We took Inca online at 14:46 this afternoon to move her to a different datacenter, as mentioned in our previous post, to the one where Maya is currently located.

The move has now been pretty much complete. We got her back online at about 17:00, maybe slightly before, but services have been going up and down as we played around with the network setup.

All services have now been restored and are available to use once again.

Inca datacenter move 2

15 September 2007

We are once again moving Inca to a different datacenter, the one that Maya is now located at.

This will involve several hours of downtime during the afternoon today (Sunday). Only users who use the services on Inca will be affected, everthing else will be running as normal.

Corporate re-design

After the fresh new look we've just given this site we are also working on a new and updated version of our corporate site, Worfolk.biz.

The new site will remain largely the same in terms of design and will just smooth over a few issues and get things looking a little better.

The behind the scenes changes have been a little more extensive though - we've redone the site in CSS so that it cuts out a lot of the code and makes the site much faster to load.

More importantly we're changing the content, bringing it up to date, adding more information where needed and removing the content that nobody reads.

We're also debating the idea of adding a corporate blog to track the major developments although that is still to be decided on.
