West Park data centre

25 June 2008

During the next week we will be migrating a lot of our servers over from our current Burchett Place data centre to our new West Park data centre.

This will involve some downtime over the next few days and the weekend. In the case of our important services this should only be a few days though Aztec, Nazca and Maya may be down for a few days.

Our forward facing web and email servers are not located at either facility and so will be unaffected.

Big downtime, big changes

18 December 2007

You may have noticed a lot of our sites have been online over the weekend. This is because of some security issues we ran into that were serious enough for us to pull the main web server until they had been resolved.

The aftermath of which is that we still have a lot of work to do in checking over our network to ensure everything is secure. This also leads onto the a wider problem which means we are going to have to make some changes.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who are just simply bad people. This people thrive on other people's misery, hacking, destroying and spamming. They are the scum of the earth up, up there with pedophiles and people who talk at the theatre.

The Worfolk Online network as always had a philosophy of keeping our legacy sites online so people have access to as much content as possible and because the internet currently suffers from big problems in terms of content only being available for short periods. How many pages have existed for more than 18 months? Not many. This results in many dead links as pages appear and disappear while annoys and flustrates all of us.

Unfortunately we simply can't keep a network the size of ours secure and safe from from all the scum out there. So we're going to begin culling our network quite dramatically. Our important sites will be kept online of course and we hope to keep most of them online. But a lot will disappear. So enjoy them while you can.

November overhaul update

21 November 2007

Basically, everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. We've had like the world's most unlucky day.

We've completed most of the software updates but the hardware installation has been delayed. We should be doing some of it later today and the rest at a later date.

November overhaul

21 November 2007

We're about to undertake quite a bit of work at our Burchett Place datacenter which will affect quite a few of the servers. Full details are below.

Firstly we are upgrading the backup power supply systems of Zapotec, Aztec, Olmec and Nazca which will take them all offline for a brief period of time. Secondly we are installing new management systems on Inca and Zapotec which will then take them offline.

Finally we are installing some new hardware in Inca which will take it offline for a little longer period of time. We will also be installing some software updates while we are having some downtime to make sure that everything is up to date.

This maintenance will begin at approximately 14:30 GMT today.

Aztec is back online

8 November 2007

I said I would post when Aztec came back online. And then forgot.

Sorry :D. Aztec was brought back online a few hours ago and is up and running as normal. We managed to carry out the maintenance without having to take Nazca offline at all so all is well there too.

Aztec downtime

6 November 2007

Due to some hardware problems with a different server we are having to take Aztec offline for the indefinite future (on the same day we finally got it online and everything).

It might not take that long but I would imagine that it will be down for a good couple of hours and could well be down for a few days.

Nazca may go offline for short periods of time again while we are moving things around although if all goes well we will be able to keep it online.

New servers update

6 November 2007

A heads up on a few services. First of all, Aztec will be up and running on a regular basis within the hour. We're just sorting the final few things out now.

Secondly, Nazca will be offline for the next 15 minutes while we move a few things round.

Tonight's outage

28 October 2007

Our Burchett Place datacenter suffered a power outage at approximately 22:30 GMT tonight.

Our backup systems kicked in and kept most of the network up but we lost some connectively and some services.

Rather than risk draining our backup systems completely we decided to shut down everything and wait for the power to be restored which it was about 5 minutes ago.

We're still checking the final few systems are back online but all services from Inca, Zapotec and Nazca are now back online. No other servers were affected.

Sarah Jane goes live

To help spread the load of of traffic across the network we have added a new server to the network, nicknamed Sarah Jane.

We've been working on configuring it for the past week now and finally transfered the first site over yesterday - Quiz Baby is the first site to be moved across and is now up and running on the new server.

Email issues update

This is just a quick update to explain what is going on with our email systems. The problems have now been resolved and we are in the process of sorting the backlog of mail.

While we have now sorted most of it, we still have a lot of mail to reply to but we hope to have it all cleared within the next few days.
